Shroud of Turin: Mystery & History

Dr. Cheryl White, renowned Shroud of Turin scholar, will discuss the Shroud’s unexplained properties that baffle modern science. The linen cloth shows a mysterious image of a crucified man who bears all the related wounds that mirror the Gospel narratives of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Its unique image characteristics and compelling scientific data make it the most studied artifact in the world from many academic disciplines.

Dr. Cheryl White is a professor of history at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Shreveport and holds the endowed Hubert Humphreys Professorship and the Yancey-Strain Curatorship. The LSU Shreveport Foundation sponsors Dr. White’s presentation through her endowed professorship. Dr. White has a distinguished career-long interest in Shroud studies, currently serving on the board of directors of the Shroud of Turin Education and Research Association (STERA). She has published and presented original research from the Vatican Secret Archives related to the history of the Shroud for international journals and conferences. She is the author of eight historical nonfiction books, including “The Shroud in the Third Millennium: Confronting the Limits of Knowledge” and “A Survey History of Britain,” released in 2020.

The event is co-hosted by Prince of Peace Catholic Church & School & the Catholic Information Center.
