Join us in praying the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which begins on Thursday, 20 June 2019 and ends on Friday, 28 June 2019 (Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) ! Please add Fr Smith’s intentions (in honor of his 28 June birthday) to yours:
- O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of (name your request here).
- Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary & Glory Be
- Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.” Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace of (name your request here).
- Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary & Glory Be
- Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away.” Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace of (name your request here).
- Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary & Glory Be
- Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.
- Pray the Hail Holy Queen: Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
- Pray the Memorare: Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
- Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us. Amen.

Evenings of Recollection are similar to a two hour silent retreat. Its purpose is to help participants sanctify their ordinary life in and through their work, family, and recreational activities. The program is a meditation, preferably by a priest from the Prelature of Opus Dei, a talk by a layman on living the Christian virtues combined with time for spiritual reading, and an examination of conscience in front of the Blessed Sacrament. There is also the opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession. The evening closes with an optional time for fellowship, light snacks, and refreshments.
We are extremely fortunate that Father Velez, a priest of the Opus Dei Prelature, who is based in Miami Florida and supports the activities in Atlanta will be able to visit us for an Evening of Recollection for Men on Friday, 7 June at 7p in the Church (1209 Brushy Creek Road Taylors, SC 29687).

A student at Prince of Peace Catholic School was invited to the 2019 South Carolina Recognition Ceremony honoring students in the 7th Grade Talent Search with high SAT scores. This ceremony was sponsored by the Duke Talent Identification Program and held at Furman University. Christopher was also awarded a medal at this ceremony for being named a 2018 PSAT 8/9 Honoree for his 6th grade test scores.
Each year, a select group of students in the United States are identified as academically gifted based on their exceptional standardized test scores in school and are invited to participate in the TIP program. Only students scoring in the 95th percentile or better on standardized tests qualify. Participants are then invited to take the above-grade level ACT or SAT tests designed for college-bound tenth and eleventh graders so that their academic abilities and potential can be more accurately evaluated. They also receive a variety of support services and gain access to research and other information about using their academic abilities more effectively.
The Duke University Talent Identification Program is a nonprofit educational organization that is recognized as a leader in identifying and serving the educational needs of academically gifted youth. Through identification, recognition, challenging educational programs, information, advocacy and research, Duke TIP provides resources to gifted students, their parents, educators, and schools to help gifted scholars reach their full academic potential. For more on Duke TIP talent searches, including qualification requirements for its 4th-6th Grade Talent Search and 7th Grade Talent Search, visit www.tip.duke.edu.
