Attention elementary and middle school parents: Prince of Peace is once again offering our popular Summer Choral Theatre, June 11-17. Participants will join with others from our parish and school in learning and performing a faith-building, fully-costumed musical drama. Each half-day session (mornings grades 1-4, afternoons grades 5-8) is an all-inclusive activity that will include themed snacks, social activities, and even outdoor time, in addition to the rehearsals of singing, staging, and basic choreography. Your child won’t want to miss this exciting week! There are only 40 spots available for each session, so make sure to register your child for this opportunity to enjoy a week of fun, singing, acting, and games!
Elijah! : God’s Faithful Prophet – (rising) Grades 1-4- Monday, June 12 thru Friday, June 16 – 9:30-12:00
The story of Elijah is one of faithful obedience that sparks an earthly miracle. Mark Patterson’s lively songs and comic dialogue promise to make this enjoyable for all involved! Our young participants will excitedly retell the dramatic story of Mount Carmel as all the prophets, both genuine and phony, prayed to have their altar ignited in flames by the power of their God.
Esther – (rising) Grades 5-8- Monday, June 12 thru Friday, June 16 – 2:00 -5:00
Travel to the far off land of Susa, where the story of Esther’s courage comes to life! Packed with royalty, secret plots, imaginary camels, and evil assistants, this energetic production will be entertaining for all! Eric Whitehill’s musical score brings the story to life as he uses a variety of musical styles throughout this captivating drama.
Program Fee- $85 for one child, $150 for two children, $200 family maximum (includes instruction, t-shirt, themed snacks, and materials)
Registration is open exclusively to Prince of Peace families through March 31.
Registration will open to all others beginning April 1.
All registrations are due no later than May 10

Totus Tuus Volunteer Form

Vacation Bible School will be July 23-28th. We are bringing in Totus Tuus from the diocese of Charlotte. Totus Tuus means “totally Yours” and was St. John Paul II’s apostolic motto. Totus Tuus is a summer program that is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic Faith to children and youth through evangelization, catechesis, Christian witness, and Eucharistic worship. There are only 90 spots for this exciting program so make sure your register early!

Save the date: Family Rosary on Feb. 24, board game night after

This month on Friday, Feb. 24 Knights of Columbus at Prince of Peace is hosting a family Rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a board game night in The Ranch. Chips and drinks will be provided during the board game portion. Please bring appropriate games to share and share with friends and family. All are welcome on Feb. 24! We hope everyone can make this chance for a family and parish event. We are planning an event with family Rosary the last week of every month going forward. Ordinary Splendor

As Catholic Christians, we have been called through our Baptism to evangelize the world.  One of the best ways to encounter God, who is the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, is to experience the true, the good, and the beautiful found within our culture.  God can be found in art, literature, music, film, science, drama, dance, and nature.

In fact, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI once wrote, “The only really effective apologia for Christianity comes down to two arguments, namely the saints the Church has produced and the art which has grown in her womb.  Better witness is borne to the Lord by the splendor of holiness and art which have arisen in the community of believers than by…apologetics…”[1]

Last June, Barbara Nicolosi, a screenwriter from Los Angeles, gave a talk on the importance of the arts in the Church.  This event was a trial balloon to see if this type of event would be of interest to our parishioners.  Overwhelmingly, the feedback we received is yes, our parishioners would like more!

To this end, we will be launching a series of cultural events here at Prince of Peace, known as Ordinary Splendor, in the hopes of evangelizing ourselves and our neighbors through culture.  Our hope is to have between 6-8 events during 2017.  Ordinary Splendor will help us draw closer to the Lord through encountering his radiance and benevolence in various artistic mediums.

We are very excited to announce that our first event will be on Friday, 3 February, at 7.30p, when Ordinary Splendor presents The treble choristers of the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys of Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, New York City, as they tour the Southeast.  The Saint Thomas Choir School house, nurtures, and educates the boy choristers of the world-renowned choir of Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue.  Through rigorous musical training and highly individualized classroom instruction in a familial, Christian environment, the school instills in its students the intellectual skills and ethical values that will enable them to embrace life with confidence, responsibility, and joy.  A reception will be held after the concert.  You do not want to miss this exciting event!
