Often when children enter foster care, the situation is so urgent that they leave without taking personal belongings. We are partnering with Greenville’s Foster and Adoption Resource Center to meet a real need for new backpacks. We want to help the center provide backpacks for every child. The backpacks may be used for school, but they may equally be needed to move clothes and the little familiar treasures kids need to feel safer. Prince of Peace would like to deliver 50 backpacks to the organization, and we need your help! You can drop off the backpacks in the Church office or the narthex anytime between now and 25 September. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Hinson sarakathrynhinson@gmail.com

Our local Knights of Columbus Council is hosting a Youth Soccer Challenge Competition at Prince of Peace and all Prince of Peace boys and girls aged 9-14 are invited to participate. This competition will be held Sunday, September 11th, after the 8 AM and 10 AM Masses, on the field by the Knights of Columbus building. Participants take 15 penalty-type shots on goal without a goalie. The goal is divided into five scoring zones, the upper corners count as 20 points, the lower corners as 10 points, and the central portions of the goal is a 5 point zone. Winners are determined based on the highest point total.
Â
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based in New Haven, CT on scores from the state-level competitions. Again, all boys and girls 9 to 14-years-old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Â
